Virtual Autism

About the author

Adam Linmore is a parent who noticed changes in a toddler at home, then spent a year reading the research on screens and early childhood.

Virtual Autism began late one night with a question typed into a search box, and grew into the book he had wanted to find that night: a clear account of what the research shows about screens and the youngest children, where it falls short, and what families can do at home.

The family in the book

The book includes a family’s story. No one in it is named, and details that could identify the people in it have been changed or left out wherever possible. Every study the book relies on is listed in its notes and references, so readers can check them for themselves.

Autism and respect

Autism is lifelong, and autistic children and adults deserve respect and support. The book is about early language and play, not about changing who a child is.

How the book was checked

Every source was checked against library and publisher records. Where a study has limits, the book states them alongside its findings, and where the evidence points in more than one direction, both directions are given room.

“Virtual autism” is not a medical diagnosis. This site is not affiliated with the documentary A Stone Unturned or its website, virtualautism.org.
